Project Description

The scheme is on N56 National Secondary Road between Dungloe and Glenties in the west of County Donegal. It is the second section of the N56 Dungloe to Glenties (Kilraine) Road Scheme to be constructed with the initial section completed in 2012. The scheme consisted of the realignment and widening of approximately 5 km of road to Type 3 Single Carriageway (T3SC) and widening of 14 No. side roads adjoining the route. The realignment consisted of approximately 50% online and 50% offline through some challenging ground conditions, which included rock cuttings of up to 15m and excavation and replacement of up to 4m of peat. The scheme also included several Contractor Designed Structures and Elements including retaining structures for embankments of between 5-7m in height
