Project Description

The proposed N60 Castlebar Balla Road Improvement Scheme at Lagnamuck scheme, extends eastwards from the townland of Carrowntober Oughter to just north of Balla town in the townland of Pollnagabhalla on the N60 National Secondary route.

The road scheme comprises of approximately 1.4km of online upgrade widening and realignment of the existing road to a Type 2 Single Carriageway – Including 7.0m carriageway, 2 x 0.5m hard strips and 2 x 2.5m verges. The Scheme also provide for a mix of cycle tracks and footpaths for non-motorised road users.

The Scheme is designed in accordance with the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets implemented for schemes for the section with the 60km/h speed limit and to the Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) Design Manual for Roads and Bridges for the section located within the 100km/h zone.

To date CH2M Barry have completed the preliminary design, Part 8 planning process, Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) stage and are currently in the process of finalising the tender documents for the Scheme.
